Race day (and night)
Over a duration this long, a single target pace loses meaning within the first hours. The useful marker becomes perceived effort (RPE) per phase, not a per-kilometre number.

What the dated rules actually allow
Many 100-mile races allow a form of support that shorter formats forbid — but rules vary widely between races, never by default.
Some aid stations allow a personal crew with gear, spare clothing or a prepared meal.
Check which ones the dated rules actually permit — not every aid station allows this.A companion may sometimes run alongside you from a given point, often only at night or over the second half of the race.

Final weeks
Recovery time after an effort of this scale is longer and more variable — the taper before it deserves the same caution.
Place it noticeably earlier than before a 100K, so you arrive with legs that are truly fresh, not merely rested.
Prioritise good-quality sleep on the nights before the start — you cannot make up a sleep deficit during the race itself.
Finalise drop bags, crew plan and written instructions for your team early enough to avoid improvising the day before.
Accept that a major slowdown on the second day or second night is part of the format, not a sign of failed preparation.
Taper principles stay close to a 100K; what changes here is the safety margin taken on sleep and recovery before the start.
