About the Appalachian Trail

The Appalachian Trail is a very long-distance hiking route that crosses the Appalaches between Springer Mountain, in Gรฉorgie, and Katahdin, in Maine.

It can be hiked in sections over a few days, or in full as a thru-hike.

Why this route is emblematic

Conceived in 1921 and completed in 1937, the Appalachian Trail has become a worldwide reference for long-distance hiking.

Its character comes from the continuity of a route several thousand kilometres long through forests, ridges and valleys, as much as from the scale of its community of managers and volunteers.
